Rexy is the ultimate cuddle bug, his one goal in life is to be right beside you looking up adoringly. He is so people focused that he will choose to be with you over any other activity and is so happy and grateful to be taken out for a walk when it's his turn. Rex walks well on lead and has great recall. He gets on with other dogs and while he loves his treats (and his breakfast- he is a bit of a chunky monkey) he would do anything for praise and to be told he's a good boy.
Rex is currently working on being calm when you first walk into his yard, in his excitement he often forgets he needs to sit to get his cuddles and does have a tendency to jump up until he remembers when asked and then hilariously sits like a third grader trying to win an early minute. Reinforcing his sit regularly and consistently as an alternative to jumping will have him overcoming that in no time.
Rex came to HPH when his owners found that they could not give Rex what he requires. They had young children and while he got on well with the kids he needed time for training and other interesting things to do as he is a smart active dog. Due to the kids being so young they had no time to spend on educating Rex so found it hard to take him with them when going on outings. Since being at Happy Paws Haven his behaviour has improved immensely and he is learning that self control and making good decisions will also get him lots of pats and praise. There are definitely times you can see his brain ticking over thinking through what actions might get him some people attention. He loves doing our challenge course and the mental stimulation that brings. He thrives on interesting walks to different places, he is an active young man who may get bored so would probably be happier at least with one other dog. He likes to play and would be good at any dog sport that will physically and mentally stimulate him such as agility, scent work or something similar. Rex is a really sweet guy and would love his own family to adore again.
